Robustness assessment of multimodal freight transport networks

Multimodal freight transport allows switching among different modes of to utilize facilities more efficiently. This paper proposes an approach on network modeling and robustness assessment for multimodal networks, where the nodes represent junctions, terminals crossings, links pathways. The model captures features interconnection interdependency. Freight can switch between modalities at interconnected terminals, while disruption a single interdependent node (e.g., bridge, tunnel, railway crossing) affects multiple modalities. Considering disruptions infrastructure elements capacity degradation pathways as perturbations, is evaluated increment total travel time caused by these perturbations. We apply our Dutch transport, taking into account three modalities: inland waterway, road railway. criticality, defined impact removal time, resembles power-law distribution, independent traffic assignments. scale-free property implies relatively robust state against random disruptions. Further, we show that most critical be roughly identified their topological properties. Our research helps schedule maintenance assigning priority infrastructure.
